Dave Chang, who has previously written 'The Slot Car Handbook', has taken on the enormous and probably unenviable task of bringing together the myriad elements of this side of the hobby: the different manufacturers (who very unhelpfully have their own digital systems and approaches), the 'fringe' manufacturers of upgraded components and firmware, the theory, the racing (formats and conduct - you can't just bash each other out of the way, you know), maintenance, construction, compatibility, troubleshooting and modification. A bit like writing a book about the planets and having to include all the stars as well...
And what a job he has done! To say that he has nailed it is to do the author an injustice. He has nailed it, bolted it, then glued it just to be sure. There is something for everyone here, from the dyed-in-the-wool analogue racer who is wondering what all the fuss is about to the modern digital-age converts, and it's a book that a new enthusiast can 'grow into' as he or she gains experience, all for less than half the price of most slot cars...
date outfit bar ...This book should grace the shelves (or better still, the workbench) of every digital racer out there. Slot car product of the year? Quite possibly.

Not only is the book useful for the individual home racer, it also takes a good look at club racing, using both systems. As digital racing becomes more popular, it is no doubt then that the club aspect is growing, and looks to continue for the foreseeable future. The comprehensive covering is clearly shown on Pages 84 and 85 of the book, which features a grid with all the widely available systems, including the Scalextric, SCX, Carrera, Ninco and Slot.it systems, and all their relevant features. The detail that has been put into this section is particularly impressive, right down to the lane spacing between each lane! This really is a simple idea that puts the facts to you in a very concise manner...
date outfit brunch ...So, to conclude, I'm very impressed with this book. The detail that the book goes into, is superb, and this is coupled with some really good quality photos. This book is a credit to Dave Chang, and I'm sure that it will be very popular. There is useful information for someone like myself who is already racing digital, but the book is a 'must read' for anyone contemplating going down the digital route, and also anyone starting out on the slot racing adventure!
